how to choose
a cremation urn?

There are many things to consider before choosing a cremation urn for your loved one. Below you will find some helpful tips from the experience customer service team at Momentful Life:

1

choosing the right size

Consider the size of the urn that you will need. Most cremation urns are measured in cubic inches of volume. A good rule of thumb is that one pound of weight prior to cremation will require about one cubic inch of volume. So for example, if an individual weighed approximately 150 lbs prior to cremation you would be safe to choose any cremation urn that has more than 150 cubic inch capacity. The standard size for most cremation urns is 200 cubic inches.

2

where will the urn be kept?

Be sure to think about how you want to use the cremation urn and where you want to keep it. Urns can be kept in the home, buried at a cemetery, placed inside a cemetery niche, or used temporarily prior to the cremated remained being scattered. Most urns are kept in the home to create a more personal memorial or buried in the ground at a cemetery to create a lasting place of remembrance.

3

choose the perfect material

Choose the material that best suits your preferred aesthetic and final form of disposition. If you are looking for an urn that is suitable for in-ground burial you may want to consider a cultured marble urn such as the MacKenzie Cultured Marble Carrera, which is known for its strength and durability. Brass is a great urn material that offers great beauty and many design choices. Two of our most popular brass urns are the White Mother of Pearl and the Revere Rustic Pewter. At Momentful Life we offer a wide array of colors and styles to best suit your loved one.

features of most
cremation urns

  • Most cremation urns are designed so that cremated remains can be easily placed into the urn and secured once the urn is closed.
  • The brass urns offered by Momentful Life all feature a threaded lids closure on the top of the urn as shown in the images to the left. The top screws onto the base of the urn and allows for easy access inside the urn. Once the cremated remains are placed into the urn simply screw the top back on.
  • The cultured marble urns from Momentful Life also feature a threaded closure but it is located on the bottom of the urn.
  • Most cremation urns also feature a felt pad on the bottom of the urn to prevent the urn from scratches and household items that the urn may be displayed on or in (i.e. furniture, mantel, etc.).
